Kenneth Shipp attorneys say client is competent to stand trial

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) –  Attorneys for Kenneth Shipp have notified the court that their client is competent to stand trial.

Shipp is charged with the December 2007 murder of Huntsville Police Officer Eric Freeman.  Officer Freeman was shot and killed after responding to a traffic accident.

According to documents filed by Shipp's attorney, "council for Defendant believes that at present time Defendant is competent to stand trial".  Defense attorneys add that they are still challenging his competency at the time of the shooting.

A trial date for this case has not been set.
