A winter weather advisory has been issued for possible snowfall accumulations of 1 to 2 inches early Saturday morning. The following counties are under the winter weather advisory: Marshall, DeKalb, Jackson in North Alabama and Franklin County in southern Tennessee.

Right now it looks like a narrow band of light snow is looking more likely between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. Saturday morning. One to two inches of snow will be possible along and just north of Interstate 59. Better snow accumulations are expected in the higher elevations of Jackson County along Highway 72 towards South Pittsburgh in Tennessee.

Although most of the snow will accumulate on grassy areas and the ground temperatures remain well above freezing, if the snow is heavier than forecast there could be some travel problems. These problems will likely be confined to extreme NE Alabama, NW Georgia and the Chattanooga metro area.

If you are traveling early Saturday morning to Atlanta for the SEC Championship game, the best travel will likely be along I-20. Stay tuned for the latest on this developing storm system.
