PELHAM, AL (WAFF) - Pelham police held a news conference Friday morning to release new information on the shooting death of officer Phillip Davis.
Police confirmed that the 33-year-old Davis suffered the fatal wound during a traffic stop on Interstate 65 late Thursday night. He was rushed to UAB Hospital where he died a short time later.
Police caught the suspected shooter a couple of hours later in a different vehicle on I-65. Police identified the suspect as Bart Wayne Johnson. No word yet on the charges he'll face.
A section of I-65 in Shelby County was shut down for a while overnight while police investigated the crime scene.
Davis had been with Pelham police nearly five years.
