Man found guilty in young boy's death

Posted: Updated:

GADSDEN, AL (WAFF) - A man was found guilty by an Etowah County jury Wednesday morning in the death of a 5-year-old child.

The jury found Kevin Towles guilty on a single capital murder charge in the death of Geonte Glass in December of 2006. The jury was seated a week ago, and deliberations began Wednesday morning. It took them a little less than three hours to find him guilty.

Geonte's body was found in the trunk of a car only a day after Towles and the child's mother, Shalinda Glass, reported him missing. Towles and Shalinda Glass are accused of beating him to death.

On Friday in court, Towles' 15-year old son said Towles abused him at 8 years old, when he lived with his father.

The penalty phase in this trial will begin Thursday. The jury will have to decide between a recommendation of life in prison or a death sentence.
