HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A man charged with murder, attempted murder and robbery has a new judge to hear his case.

Judge Laura Hamilton recused herself from this case against Tavaras Fletcher. According to court documents, Hamilton is a family friend with the victim in the attempted murder case. Hamilton said their children have been involved in dance together for about 15 years.

Fletcher is accused of shooting and killing Jerry Richard, who died outside the Regions Bank on South Parkway in Huntsville last August.

Fletcher is also charged in two other unrelated attempted murder cases. He was arrested in September of 2008 after he was accused of trying to shoot someone, only to have the gun misfire.

He's also accused of shooting a Huntsville gymnastics teacher during a robbery attempt in January. The victim in that case survived.

All three cases have been re-assigned to Judge Karen Hall. Fletcher's attorneys are asking for bond and for a speedy trial.

Fletcher remains in jail. No court date has been set for any of the three charges against him.
