HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A former Decatur police officer who pleaded guilty to stealing thousands from his department is scheduled to be sentenced for his crime Tuesday in federal court.

Faron White was moved from the Shelby County jail in Columbiana Monday to be brought to North Alabama for his sentencing.

The longtime sergeant is accused of stealing $60,000 then staging an abduction from his office and fleeing to Las Vegas to meet up with a woman who helped with his scheme.

White could get up to 16 months in prison.

The former Officer of the Year for the Decatur Police Department could get up to 16 months in federal prison.

His attorney has filed a motion with the court which seeks to have White sentenced to time served followed by supervised release.

White, who has been in jail since January 24th, cites his distinguished career in law enforcement and his ailing father as reasons he should be released sooner rather than later.
