GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A Guntersville father is charged with murdering his son.

Officers said it started as an argument, then turned deadly. Investigators also said it's becoming a common trend.

There have been two murders in the past two weeks.

Guntersville police said domestic disputes getting out of control are to blame.

Investigators said Samuel and his son didn't have a good relationship. Instead of seeking help, things went too far.

WAFF 48 News was there as 59 year old J.C. Franklin Samuel was taken from Guntersville Police Department to the Marshall County Jail.

Investigators said Samuel shot his 35-year-old son, Gregory Samuel after getting into an argument with him.

"The argument started at the house and the son had ended up leaving and came back to the residence and that's where the final altercation took place," said Mike Turner, Guntersville Police Investigator.

Guntersville Police said this wasn't the first time the father and son had heated arguments or physical altercations.

"They were living together at the same house," said Turner. "We've had a history of domestic disputes at that house. We've answered a couple calls in a bit."

Police have been called out to their house 3 times in the past month.

Domestic disputes leading to murder have been common in Guntersville lately.

Turner said in the past two weeks there have been two deaths. Both from arguments with family members getting out of control.

Turner hopes this trend has come to an end.

"Never let things get to this point and always pick the phone up and call for help," said Turner.

Samuel remains in the Marshall County Jail. He is being held on a 50 thousand dollars bond.
