BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - Jacksonville State's Ryan Perrilloux and Jawaan Booker have each been named the Ohio Valley Conference Players of the Week, the league office announced on Sunday.
Perrilloux was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Booker earned Defensive Player of the Week honors just one day after the Gamecocks were just 35 seconds away from upsetting Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) power Florida State on Saturday.
Perrilloux threw for 213 yards and one touchdown versus the Seminoles and rushed for 39 yards. His 28-yard touchdown pass to Jamal Young early in the first quarter gave JSU a 6-0 lead.
The LaPlace, La., native has at least one passing touchdown pass in 11 of his 12 games at Jax State and has now thrown for 200 yards or more nine times during his career (seven as a Gamecock) and in four of his last five starts.
Booker led a Gamecock defense that limited the high-powered Florida State offense to just 78 yards rushing after leading the team with eight tackles, including four solo stops.
The Lanett, Ala., native finished the contest with two fumble recoveries, including one in the third quarter that stopped a Florida State drive on the JSU 1-yard line. He also recorded another fumble on FSU's opening drive of the fourth quarter as the Gamecocks held on to a 9-7 lead before eventually falling 19-9. Booker now ranks second nationally in fumble recoveries per game (1.50).
Jacksonville State returns to action this weekend at Alabama A&M. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and tickets are available by calling the JSU Athletic Department at 256-782-8499.
