HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A suspect was arrested in the shooting death of a young Huntsville mother Thursday, and WAFF 48 News found he has a previous arrest record.

Arthur Earl Williams, 37, of Huntsville was charged in connection with the slaying of Jamica Jones, 21, on Monday morning on 11th Street.

Huntsville police investigators confirmed to WAFF 48 News that Jones was shot and was already dead when officers arrived. The victim's three children were present when the crime took place.

Investigators with Huntsville's Major Crimes Unit tracked down leads earlier in the week, and took Williams into custody late Wednesday afternoon at a parking lot near Governor's Drive and 12th Street, not far from the crime scene.

WAFF 48 News did some digging into the suspect's background. Williams had prior arrests for first degree robbery, probation violations, second degree assault, and discharging a gun into an occupied building or vehicle.

When WAFF 48 News asked what sort of relationship, if any, existed between Jones and Williams before the shooting, Huntsville Police Sgt. Mark Roberts, he said, "Right now, they're still investigating that.  This is kind of a delicate investigation."

Williams was booked on $75,000 bond and remained in jail early Thursday evening.

A fund has been set up for Jamica Jones at Redstone Federal Credit Union for those who would like to help with funeral costs and her children's future.
