GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Lake Guntersville's on-water fireworks display is the biggest in North Alabama.

In less than 24 hours, fireworks will be fired off a barge anchored between the Warrenton Causeway and the river bridge at 9'clock Saturday night.

These are pictures of last year's fourth of july event.

"For many years we've had an on water fireworks show that historically has brought at least 10 thousand people in the peninsula here," said Guntersville Police Cheif Jim Peterson.

Guntersville police hope to limit traffic congestion.

"Being on a peninsula, we have a limited number of routes in and out of guntersville," said Chief Peterson.

Traffic signals on Gunter Avenue will be flashing yellow, so joining streets can easily yield to traffic.

Gunter Avenue will be reduced to one lane, so traffic will continue to flow on Hwy 69.

Other roads will be temperarily closed and there will be no parking allowed on the main river bridge.

Guntersville police have traffic congestion on land figured out...but what about the water?

"Everyone will be working this holiday weekend," said Sgt. Randy Jones with the Marine Police.

Marine police expect many boats on rivers and lakes this holiday. Boaters-remember your boat must have a light. Reduce your speed to avoid collisions, and remember to have patience.

"After the fireworks are over with, everyone is in a rush to get their boats on the trailers and get back home. Slow down and take it easy getting back to the shore," advised Sgt. Jones.
