DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - The National Transportation and Safety Board has released a preliminary report after two planes collided on May 23rd.
41-year-old Steven Raddatz of Tuscumbia was killed when his plane struck his friend's plane in mid-air over the Decatur campus at Calhoun Community College.
The other pilot, B. J. Kennamore was able to land his plane safely.
In the report, it says prior to departing the airport, both pilots planned to preform maneuvers while spectators on the ground took photos, however they did not pre-plan any formation flying.
