BELLINGHAM, Wash. --- The University of North Alabama men's golf team will resume its quest for a natonal championship on Tuesday when the Lions begin play in the 47th annual NCAA Division II National Men's Golf Tournament at the Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine. The four-day event will be played from May 19-22.
UNA won the South/Southeast Super Regional on May 6 to advance to the Division II Championships for the ninth time overall and third straight season. North Alabama closed last year's championship round in a three-way tie with West Florida and St. Edwards but finished second in the playoff.
This year's Lion squad includes two freshmen, a sophomore, a junior and a senior. Freshman Jake Greer of Birmingham, Ala., won the South/Southeast Super Regional.
The Lions enter the championship tournament on a roll. UNA defeated 23 schools in winning its own UNA Spring Classic, then followed that with its first Gulf South Conference Championship in 38 years in the league. The regional title then followed, giving UNA three straight tournament titles and four this season.
