Students back in school after being out for flu

MADISON, AL (WAFF) - With concerns over the swine flu outbreak subsiding, it was back to school Wednesday for elementary school students in Madison and at Harvest Elementary in Madison County.

Educators at Heritage Elementary School in Madison say it's safe to roam the halls, but just in case, teachers have hand sanitizer and soap all over the school.

Many students tell us they're very happy to be back, and they've had their 15 minutes of fame.

"My sister had a soccer tournament in Birmingham and I decided to wear my Heritage Elementary t-shirt and a lot of kids got scared because they thought I was contagious," said Heritage Elementary Student Sarah Swager.

School leaders have yet to decide how or if students will have to make up the days they missed.
