Drug ring dented in Madison County

ARDMORE, AL (WAFF) - Two law enforcement agencies put a major dent in a drug trafficking chain leading to Madison County.

Wednesday morning, just after five, drug agents and SWAT teams swarmed a home on Coggins Road in the Ardmore community.

They booked one man on some major charges:  Trafficking marijuana and trafficking cocaine.

Now, these men and women feel more at ease knowing they've put a key player in the drug war behind bars.

Seven firearms and no permit to have them.

More than 8 oz. of powdered cocaine, with a street value of around $1,200 an ounce.

Five to eight lbs. of marijuana valued at $800 a pound, $2,900 in cash, digital drug scales, and a fake ID.

This is what narcotics units from the Madison County Sheriff's Department and Madison Police Department say they found at 329 Coggins Road in the early-morning raid.

"We were conducting an investigation into large-scale cocaine transactions that were taking place at this residence," Sgt. Michael Salomonsky told WAFF 48 News.

Transactions the supervisor says likely took place while 48-year-old Julian Davalos' wife and child were home.

A three-year-old child lived there.

Agents say Davalos is now in the southeastern United States illegally after his resident alien card expired.

Now, he's charged with trafficking marijuana and cocaine.

Narcotics officers say the suspect's overall operation overshadows the amount of drugs they found at his residence.

Salomonsky says Davalos was a primary source; he traveled to Texas to pick up the cargo, then brought it back to the Valley.

"This is the person that actually goes down, meets with the main people, obtains dope, and brings it back to Madison County and sells it." Salomonsky said.

As five o'clock Wednesday evening, Davalos remains in the Madison County Jail on a $200,000 bond.

It is yet to be determined if his wife or others will face charges.
