Fired basketball coach sentenced for sexually abusing players

A fired girls' basketball coach from Huntsville gets two years probation for harassment.

Former Butler High School coach Calvin Staten agreed to permanently relinquish his state teaching license as part of an agreement resolving felony sexual abuse charges involving some of his former players.

Staten pleaded guilty to four misdemeanor counts of harassment.

Judge Karen Hall suspended his one-year sentence on those charges and placed Staten on two years probation.

Staten was indicted in 2005 on charges of sexual abuse involving 4 Butler basketball players.

His trial ended in a mistrial and he was scheduled to be re-tried on those charges next week.
