MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - People in Ryland are fighting to keep their post office open. A US Postal Service official said the Ryland post office is under consideration for closure. The USPS is looking for ways to cut financial losses.

People in Ryland are conducting a petition drive to keep the post office open.

"Because of the convenience. It is a very busy post office. And also the community identifies with it. It's been here for over a hundred years," said Ryland resident Brenda Miller.

USPS officials say any decisions on post office closures will be done by September 30th. They are conducting surveys though April 1st. The people with the petition say they'll keep the drive going until then. They plan to send the names to the USPS, along with letters to Alabama senators and congress members in Washington, D.C.
