Lower gas prices make holiday travel easier

MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF)- If your Labor Day plans took you away from home this year, the lower gas prices certainly made getting there easier.

According to AAA, the gas price average is down more than a dollar from last year at this time when the national average price for gas was $3.66 cents a gallon.

That hit drivers hard and caused many to stay home, but this year prices are down and things are looking up.

AAA said the average for the state of Alabama is down to $2.39 cents a gallon.

Traveller, Mike Cunningham said gas prices didn't hold him and his family back from their big football plans.

He said they "went to Atlanta to watch the Alabama Crimson Tide roll."

Cunningham said the low prices have helped his family take more trips together.

"I'm glad it's gone down, cause I like to stay on the road, and I can go more places," he said.

On the other hand, some out-of-town drivers, like Chris Wood, said gas prices don't influence their plans. Wood said it's included in his holiday budget.

"Gas wasn't really an issue because we weren't planning on doing a lot of driving, just hanging out at the park, so it wasn't really a factor for us," said Wood.

"It's been a beautiful time of the year, everybody needs to get out and do a little driving around," said Cunningham.
