GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - People in one neighborhood say they haven't gotten mail in weeks, and the four-legged reason is something they find unbelievable.
The residents were never notified the post office was going to stop delivering their mail, but realized it after weeks of an empty mailbox.
"All we want is just our mail delivered," said Tammy Burden, who said she never received notice from the Guntersville post office about the termination of her delivery.
Tammy Burden isn't the only one not getting her mail. Her next door neighbor -- Tammy's mother-in-law -- isn't either.
"I put mine on the mailbox there and they usually pick it up," Betty Burden said. "Then a day or two, I thought maybe I didn't have any mail."
The reason being given for the lack of mail delivery is Tammy's dog Doug.
"Yes ma'am, I have a very vicious dog," she said. "[He's] 12 years old, arthritis, cataracts and he's hard of hearing."
Doug is a Jack Russell mix. He's an inside dog that only comes outside to relieve himself. But Tammy Burden said the postal carrier won't deliver her mail because he's afraid Doug will attack him.
Back in November, the carrier claimed Doug was going to attack him, so he sprayed the dog in the face with mace. Since then, nothing's been the same.
Tammy Burden said anyone can see for themselves that Doug is not vicious. All she wants is her mail delivered.
"There is so many people that can attest that Doug is a wonderful dog. Doug is inside all the time now. All we want is our mail delivered in a professional manner and in a timely manner. That's all we're asking," she said.
WAFF 48 News contacted the Guntersville post office, but they had no comment.
Tammy Burden says she's written a letter to Congressman Robert Aderholt and plans to seek legal action.
