Today's Forecast Image

Today is a First Alert Weather Day for strong to severe storms this afternoon and evening. There remains a chance that a complex of storms along the Gulf Coast could block the potential for significant severe weather in North Alabama and Middle Tennessee. This is pretty much an all or nothing type severe weather event.  If you see some sunshine by early afternoon expect a higher chance of seeing severe weather. A few showers are possible this morning from a weakening line of storms to our west. These will continue weakening and fade away but the old boundary could spark a few early afternoon storms in northeastern Alabama between 2-5pm. Some of the storms could become strong. If we become unstable, by 4pm clusters of thunderstorms could begin developing and quickly become severe. They will develop over NE Mississippi and NW AL. These would have the potential for damaging winds up to 70mph, golf ball sized hail, and strong tornadoes. As the evening progresses these storm clusters would likely congeal into a line and track east across all of North Alabama and southern Middle Tennessee through Midnight. long this line there would be a threat for significant lightning, torrential rainfall, large hail, damaging straight line winds, and possible spin-up tornadoes.  If severe weather breaks out we will provide continuous coverage throughout the day and night on social media, WAFF.com, and WAFF TV channel 48. You can also get coverage on the WAFF 48 First Alert weather and news apps. A few showers will remain early Friday morning but the sunshine will return Friday afternoon with highs in the upper 60s.  Morning lows will start in the 40s on Saturday. Saturday and Sunday look great with highs around 80. We are keeping our eyes on another storm system that could bring more strong to severe storms to the Southeast Monday.
