Family, friends, and fans are mourning the loss of a talented Valley musician.
3-time Grammy-winning guitarist Chalmers "Spanky" Alford passed away Monday from complications from diabetes.
He began playing professionally at 17 as a gospel musician.
During his career, "Spanky" played with gospel singer Shirley Caesar, Al Green, Joss Stone, the Bee Gee's, and John Mayer just to name a few.
He's survived by his wife Shirley, one child and 2 grandchildren.
A musical tribute to "Spanky" Alford will be held Friday night at 7 at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral services are Saturday at noon at the church.
