Fyffe High put on lockdown after alleged kidnapping attempt

FYFFE, AL (WAFF) -- A DeKalb County school was put on lockdown Wednesday afternoon after a mother alleged that a gunman had attempted to kidnap her son from the school.

According to Fyffe Police Chief Jack Fowler, Fyffe High School was placed on lockdown after the woman said said the man threatened to take her son if she didn't give him money. The would-be kidnapper allegedly forced her to take him to the school.

After the incident was reported, police searched the school grounds and reviewed surveillance video and found no evidence was on the high school's ground on Wednesday. The students were then released from lockdown at 3:30 p.m.

The incident remains under investigation, and it hasn't been determined whether or not the alleged kidnapper was ever on school grounds.

The woman who reported the alleged threat was taken to an area hospital. No one was injured during the incident.
