To either keep or fire Carol Wicks as Director of Animal Services will be a decision made by the city council. If it comes to that, it would be put on a Decatur City Council meeting agenda for further review. So far, it is not on the agenda for their next meeting on Sep 2. If the issue comes before the city council, that's when we hope to find out why Mayor Kyle decided to put Wicks on paid administrative leave. He will not comment on it, saying he cannot talk about a pending personnel issue. UNION GROVE, AL (WAFF) - Three generations of one Marshall county family are homeless after an early morning house fire engulfed their home on Pea Ridge Circle in Union Grove.

They spent the afternoon picking through the rubble, trying to salvage anything left of their memories. More than a half-century of memories, gone in minutes.

"This is my great-grandfather's house, he and my great-grandmother lived here," said Haley Breedwell, who lived at the home.

"Everything was in there, everything everybody had was in there."

Union Grove firefighters battled the blaze that tore through 971 Pea Ridge Circle, leaving Breedwell and four of her family members homeless.

The family believes the fire was caused by bed sheets that caught on a space heater.

"They did the best that they can, they did a great job while they were here," Breedwell said. "There just needs to be more training. I understand this is a small town with not a lot of money but to save people's homes and their things, their lives."

The Red Cross is helping the family with shelter for a few days, but they really need homes for 13 puppies that are being left behind.

A few surprises amid the rubble remind the Breedwells to count their blessings, as everyone made it out of the home safely.

Meanwhile this small community bands together to help the family.

"They've been great, everyone's been by, they've given us stuff, everything from money to food to their old clothes that they can't wear anymore and that means a lot when you've lost everything," Breedwell said.

If you're interested in adopting any of those puppies, you can call Haley Breedwell at (256) 347-9422.

As of late Tuesday, a fund is being established to help this family rebuild.

We'll bring you information on how to help as soon as we get it.
