Changing of the Guardsmen

Sept. 6 - More Alabama National Guard troops have been called on to help in the war on terror.

National Guardsmen from Talladega and Saint Clair Counties have been called to active duty. The 31st Cavalry of the 31st Armor Brigade left Alabama last night. Their mission: to provide homeland security somewhere in the United States.

This is Alabama’s only cavalry unit.

Meanwhile, the National Guard members who have been helping out at Redstone Arsenal are headed back home.

A special ceremony for the 167th Mechanized Infantry was held Wednesday at the Arsenal. General Larry Dodgen thanked the guardsmen for keeping the Arsenal safe. He also gave them medals for putting their lives on hold for a year to help fight the war on terrorism.
