Another puppy mill busted

The WAFF 48 investigators joined a puppy mill raid in DeKalb County.

The sites and smells: disturbing. Dogs living amongst feces, bones scattered in the yard.  

Dekalb County humane investigator Freda Waters says she has been following this mill, which has about 100 dogs, since August of 2007.

"Beagles, bulldogs, basset hounds, westies, Pekingese, pugs, Shih Tzu's, Chihuahua's."

And the list of pure breeds goes on.

"It's awful. There's feces on the beds, it's caked on the floor, on the furniture, everywhere."

Waters says Mary Peek, Lynell Peek and Edward Huffstutler signed away rights to the dogs and were taken away in handcuffs.

"They are going to be charged with three counts of neglect of animals today and it will be up to the judge what their sentence is."

"What about all the feces everywhere?  Well, I hadn't had a chance today to clean them up."

"Yeah, they are dirty but that's all."

A dirty condition that Waters says is unacceptable.

"This home here where Lynell lives in is extremely unsanitary and unsafe for him to be living in, much less the animals."

Waters says today's puppy mill raid and the condition of these dogs should serve as a warning for anyone else who has a similar operation going on.
