Prank call sends one woman to the hospital

Prank calls may be annoying, but harmless, right? Maybe not.

Two teenage girls from Winchester, Tennessee are accused of making a prank call to a woman in Algood, Tennessee.

That woman had a stroke.

If you've ever seen the horror movie series "Saw, you know about a ruthless villain who forces his victims to play horrific games, fighting to stay alive.

And for 52-year-old Beverly Dickson, it was not something out of Hollywood. It was reality.

This was just part of a cryptic message on her phone: "You need to decide if life is worth living for. We have one of your friends hidden in your house."

Dickson, of Algood, Tennessee, got the message on her cell phone while sitting in a funeral procession.

And investigators say two 13-year-olds from Winchester, Tennessee were behind the call.

Authorities say the girls stayed up late prank calling friends.

But at two a.m., one of those calls went to Dickson's cell phone.

More of the message said: "There is toxic gas that will be fogged out in ten minutes. It will kill you in half a minute, so you decide, it's your game. Do you want to live or die."

Dickson suffered a stroke and was rushed to the hospital.

The girls say they are sorry, but many people say the prank that went too far, shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Huntsville residents we talked to didn't seem too amused.

Kenny Anton says, "I don't think anything like that should be taken off the screen into real life."

Sheldon Jordan tells us, "You watch movies and I guess people just take them a little too far."

Alex Anton says, "Prank calling first of all is horrible to do and to hurt somebody doing it is just ridiculous."

The two girls have been charged with phone harassment.

Dickson is recovering from her stroke and is expected to be ok, but her husband says she is having trouble sleeping at night.

Police say this is a big wake up call for those who contemplate making harassing phone calls.
