Pharmacist arrested for fraud

A Winston County pharmacist has been arrested on federal healthcare fraud charges.

63-year-old Gerald Max Burleson of Haleyville is charged with health care fraud and drug mis-branding.

The charges stem from a medicare fraud investigation at the City Pharmacy of Haleyville, which Burleson operated.

He's accused of filling prescriptions with medication he'd compounded rather than from commercial drugs.

The maximum sentence for healthcare fraud is 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine or both.
