Teachers and students throughout Lauderdale County are opening their hearts and reaching out to those who might not have a good Christmas this year.
Lisa Moses is heading up a school bus drive for kids grades K-12 who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina.
Early Thursday, she and several others headed to Mississippi on four school buses full of blankets, school supplies, and other presents to take to students along the Gulf Coast.
"We also have gifts for teachers and staff," said Moses.
Gifts collected by students throughout Lauderdale County.
When their mission is complete, they'll even be handing over the buses.
Moses said, "Half of their bus fleet was destroyed. They were uninsured and they didn't have buses to take care of that and they're doing triple routes. Kids are getting to school an hour and fifteen minutes early and having to stay after school an hour and fifteen minutes later."
Lauderdale County has adopted two school systems in Mississippi.
Volunteers say they hope to put a smile on victims faces this holiday season and to show they are not forgotten.
