BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The city of Birmingham is expanding its civil rights trail. Officials are holding a ribbon-cutting today to open 4 miles of walking paths between downtown Birmingham and neighborhoods that played a role in the civil rights movement.
DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - A federal judge wants a mental evaluation for a former Ku Klux Klan leader who pleaded guilty to burning a cross in a black neighborhood in Ozark. The judge ordered a psychiatric evaluation for 28-year-old Steve Joshua Dinkle after the man's lawyer said he is having hallucinations in jail. The evaluation is due by April 6.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The nation's largest regional passenger airline is advising pilots to avoid landing on the runway where a UPS cargo jet crashed in Birmingham. ExpressJet Airlines issued the guidance after an internal review that followed the UPS accident last year. The alert was dated in September.
DULUTH, Ga. (AP) - Courtney Walker sank her first seven shots and scored 25 points, leading No. 15 Texas A&M to a runaway 86-54 win over Auburn on yesterday in the quarterfinals of the Southeastern Conference tournament. Texas A&M will play No. 6 Tennessee in today's second semifinal. Tennessee beat Texas A&M 76-55 on Jan. 26.
