NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A spokesman says more than 30 teens escaped from a Nashville youth detention center and 17 are still being sought. Tennessee Department of Children's Services spokesman Rob Johnson says 32 teens - ages 14 to 19 - escaped around 11 p.m. Monday by crawling under a spot in a fence that surrounded a yard there.

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Dollar General is boosting its bid for rival Family Dollar to approximately $9.1 billion and says it's now willing to more than double the number of stores it would shed to avoid trouble with regulators.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee's Adjutant General will award the Soldier's Medal to four Tennessee National Guard members. According to the Guard, the medal is for individuals who have distinguished themselves by an act of heroism not involving conflict with an enemy.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Gov. Bill Haslam has named David Purkey as the director of the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency. Purkey, a former Hamblen County, had been serving as interim TEMA director since the retirement of Jim Bassham in April.
