An Alabama official says three adult family members have died when a tornado hit a home in central Alabama.

Autauga County Chief Deputy Sheriff Joe Sedinger says 65-year-old Willard Hollon and his adult children Steve and Cheryl were killed late Friday night in the Boone's Chapel community, just 24 miles north of Montgomery.

Combined with one death previously reported in Alabama and other fatalities in Arkansas, Mississippi and Oklahoma, the death toll has risen to 17 in the nation's deadliest storm of the season.

Governor Bentley has declared a state of emergency and will join local and state officials to survey the storm damage in the Boone's Chapel area today at 12:30 pm.
