Pryor Nomination

A vote was expected today on Attorney General Bill Pryor's nomination to a federal judgship, but it's been delayed.  This morning the Senate Judiciary committee was scheduled to vote on Pryor.  A vote in his favor would send his nomination to the full senate for a vote.  But Senate Democrats delayed the vote until next Wednesday.

During a June hearing New York Senator Charles Schumer said, "This is by far one of the most troubling records we've seen thus far and Mr. Pryor has a long way to go before he'll convince me that he'll be a fair, down the middle judge."  Attorney General Bill Pryor's nomination to be a federal appeals court judge has been a rocky road.  Washington interest groups as well as Senate Democrats have staunchly opposed him.  Saying he's too outspokenly conservative to be an unbiased judge.  In a Senate hearing in June, Pryor responded.  "Though I have vehemently opposed Roe v. Wade on the one hand, as Attorney General where I must uphold the law, I have done my duty."

Now new charges, Democrats questioning whether Pryor was raising campaign funds from companies his office was investigating.  Pryor denies the claims.  Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions supports him.  "They've had their time, they've had their witnesses and nothing has shown up to impeach his integrity at all."  The vote is now set for Wednesday morning.
