HUNTSVILE, AL (WAFF) -Best-selling author and Alabama native Fannie Flagg talked to Huntsville Middle School students Thursday.

Flagg, who wrote books such as "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop" has dyslexia. She said she struggled in the classroom.

"I was discouraged and could have dropped out. I didn't and I'm so glad," Flagg said.

A teacher saw something in her, recognized that Flagg had talent, and encouraged her. She passed that message of encouragement to the kids.

"You will find what you're best at. So, just hang in there. Stick in there. Because when I was in the sixth grade, if someone would have told me I would have written eight books, I would not have believed it," Flagg said.

Her newest book, "I Still Dream About You", out only a week is already on the New York Times Best Sellers List.

"It's very funny. And I think people in Alabama will recognize the characters because they are all based on people I know in Alabama," Flagg said.
