Guntersville, AL -
GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) – Marshall County authorities arrested a suspect in the year-old murder of Sheffield businessman Ricky Moody.
33-year-old Wesley Claude Burgess of Guntersville is charged with Moody's October 23, 2009 murder. Sheriff Scott Walls says Moody was shot outside his Claysville business Motors & Cash.
Sheriff Walls says a tip from Guntersville police led them to burgess.
"We did obtain a confession to the crime last night, and of course officials charges were made this morning," said Walls.
He says the Sheriff's department activated the Marshall County Major Crimes Unit. It is made up of investigators from Albertville, Arab, Boaz, Guntersville, Marshall County Sheriff's Office and the Marshall County District Attorney's Office. Alabama Bureau of Investigations, Madison County District Attorney Investigators and the Federal Bureau of Investigation also assisted in the investigation.
There is no word on a motive in this case and authorities continue to investigate.
Burgess is in the Marshall County Jail, awaiting a bond hearing before a Judge.
