MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - The teenager accused of killing a classmate at Discovery Middle School could soon be free on bond.
Hammad Memon has been back in the Madison County Metro Jail since Tuesday. He returned to the jail after a mental evaluation in Tuscaloosa.
Memon's return to the Madison county jail means his family is once again eligible to post his $75,000 bail on the murder charge.
His attorney, Bruce Gardner said Memon has been suicidal since his arrest. Gardner said he is glad his client could be freed on bond, but says he has some safety concerns
"There have been threats. We have heard about the threats communicated. I'm more concerned about Hammad being a threat to himself," Gardner said.
Mark McDaniel represents the family of the murder victim, Todd Brown.
"What can you say? They suffer every day. They'll never get over this. This community will never get over this.," McDaniel said.
