New election night reporting system to be tested during primary - WAFF-TV: News, Weather and Sports for Huntsville, AL

MONTGOMERY, AL - A new election night reporting system would be tested during the primary runoff election Tuesday. The test program will take place in four counties: Jefferson, Madison, Mobile, and Montgomery. 

These four counties represent approximately one-third of Alabama's voting population. The system will be released statewide for the general election with all 67 counties participating.

The election night reporting system, or ENR, takes vote totals directly from each county and displays them in a usable format on the internet. Once the results are posted to the web, they will be displayed using maps and graphics to show vote totals, percentages and other important information to the public.  The system is part of Secretary of State Beth Chapman's initiative to bring the Secretary of State's office into the 21st century by using new technology to better serve the citizens of Alabama.

"We are excited to provide this service to the public," said Chapman. "This is just one of the many ways we are promoting fair and honest elections in Alabama. Citizens can see the numbers for themselves from each county on election night as they are received by our office. They will be able to see what happens more clearly after they cast their ballot and leave the polling place on Election Day. They will be able to see another part of democracy in action."
