HARVEST, AL (WAFF) - Firefighters battled a grass fire on Lincarrie Lane off Nick Davis Road in Harvest.
The fire started around 2:30 Tuesday afternoon. The hot, dry conditions fueled the fire. Firefighters from Harvest, Bobo, Toney and Monrovia fought the fire under a blazing hot sun. More than two dozen volunteer firefighters threw everything they had into stopping this wildfire as quickly as possible.
The fire burned about three acres in an area near some power lines in the Harvest area. Firefighters from four fire departments and the Forestry Service worked to corral the fire. Five brush trucks were used to get water to the scene.
A backhoe was used to cut fire lines and knock down burning trees. The heat slowed the firefighting efforts. Two firefighters had to be taken to the hospital after they got overheated and dehydrated.
People living in the area say it was a scary sight.
"I saw clouds of smoke billowing and flames shooting up from the back," said Al Dorosh who lives near the area.
"It's unfortunate that it's happening so close to my family and neighbors. Might endanger our well-being," said Stacy Parrish.
The firefighters' quick action kept everyone safe. Firefighters suspect fireworks sparked the fire.
