HUNTVILLE, AL (WAFF) - More space jobs could be on the chopping blocks as companies learn what President Obama's NASA budget could mean for them.

Jacobs Engineering held a big meeting Tuesday on the campus of UAHuntsville. Multiple sources say announcements at this all hands meeting could mean big changes for a significant number of Jacobs' and partner company's employees.

Jacobs' web site says their current contract with Marshall Space Flight Center includes support to the space shuttle, the International Space Station, and the Constellation program.

Jacobs is the prime contractor for part of the Ares 1-X rocket..which is a part of Constellation. Constellation will be no more under the president's proposed budget.

Sources say people inside this meeting were given the option to take a voluntary layoff and receive one thousand dollars as well as pay until July 9th. They say workers were also told they can apply for part time work, or stay and see what happens.

Jacobs was contacted to get more information. We're still waiting to hear what they have to say about Tuesday's meeting and what's next for their company's future in Huntsville.
