Meridianville fire engine totaled after crashing into utility pole

MERIDIANVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A fire truck hit a 50-foot concrete utility pole causing a massive power outage.

It happened Saturday night on Steger Road.

51-year-old Steven Lowery, a Meridianville Volunteer firefighter was the only one in the engine.

He was returning to the station from a call when the vehicle went off the road, hitting the utility pole and overturning.

Officials say the fire truck is a total loss.

Lowery was not seriously injured in the accident.

State troopers are investigating what caused the driver to crash.
