MOULTON, AL (WAFF) - The debate over legalizing gambling in Alabama continues to rage.

Church leaders in Lawrence County held a rally in Moulton today to hear the community's take on the issue.

Several dozen people came out to HA Alexander park to hear what community leaders had to say on the issue.

Many spoke out against bills being considered in the state legislature that would legalize electronic bingo, but there were a few people who turned out who are in favor of gambling.

These bills would also allow every county in Alabama to vote locally on whether they want to allow casinos in their county.

"I understand the detrimental effects that gambling has on families, that it's the lower income families that usually suffer the most when gambling comes into an area," said Wear Baptist Church Pastor Brad Tidwell.

Troy Coots is in favor of gambling.  "I just can't understand they've not pointed out and made me believe it'll cut the jobs."

The Valley is a big part of this debate.

The house and senate bills are being pushed by state representative Marcel Black and state senator Roger Bedford.
