MARYVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Maryville College has chosen a new president.
The board of directors announced Thursday that William Bogart, known as "Tom," will replace Gerald Gibson, who is retiring at the end of the academic year.
Bogart is currently dean of academic affairs and a professor of economics at York College of Pennsylvania.
The Ohio native earned a bachelor's degree from Rice University and a master's degree and Ph.D. in economics from Princeton.
Board Chair Dan Ellis said directors were impressed with Bogart's leadership experience, his background as a scholar and teacher and his understanding of church-related colleges.
Maryville College was founded in 1819 and is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church USA. It has an enrollment of 1,103 students. Bogart will be the school's 11th president.
