It happened just after 5:30 a.m. Monday on Highway 20, just east of Highway 31.

Police investigators said a black 2000 Nissan Maxima driven by Rusty McIntyre was traveling west on Highway 20 when it crossed over the grass median and collided with a Silver Hyundai Sonata driven by Anthony Cheek Jr., which was eastbound on Hwy 20.

Cheek was pronounced dead at the scene. McIntyre was thrown from the car, then airlifted to Huntsville Hospital. Police officials said his injuries are said to be non-life-threatening.
