Two dead bodies found in Decatur alley way

DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - Two people are dead and another injured after a shooting and stabbing in Decatur on Christmas Day.

Decatur police are trying to piece together what happened.

It happened early Christmas morning in the southeast part of town at the 5th avenue and 4th street intersection.

Police said Caleb Stewart Blankenship, 34, and Joshua Scott Blankenship, 30, of Moulton were found shot to death in an alley.  The victims are brothers. 

They said a third person, who was involved in the incident returned to the scene while police were there. 

Investigators are not releasing his name but said he has been questioned and no charges have been filed in the case at this time. 

They said that the person suffered stab wounds and was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The incident has put the entire neighborhood on edge.

Neighbor Shawn Bales said, "I didn't know what was going on but I seen all the cops around and stuff. You wake up with the kids Christmas morning, opening up gifts with the kids and you walk out and this is happening it's kind of crazy."

It happened just yards away from Billy White's home.  He said, "It's pretty close, it's getting too close to home."

Investigators spent their holiday collecting evidence and trying to determine exactly what happened.

Police have not yet determined a motive.  The bodies are being taken to the Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville, where an autopsy will be performed on Monday.
