MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - The owner of a Memphis pharmacy may close it down because of 3 break-ins this year.
Dr. Charles Smith of the Wiles-Smith Drug Store commented after this week's most recent burglary. Thieves are after prescription drugs.
According to The Commercial Appeal, the business bills itself as the "oldest independent drug store in the city." It's 67 years old.
Thieves used a sledgehammer on the back wall during the first two break-ins in June, costing $2,500 to repair and secure. They also stole more than $2,000 worth of prescription medications, including codeine and hydrocodone.
Culprits used a similar method this week, but the store's alarm sounded and nothing appeared to be taken.
