SHEFFIELD, AL (WAFF) - Sheffield Junior High teacher Amanda Watkins is on paid administrative leave after she was caught by police while performing a sexual act with a teenage student.
There are several rumors that are circulating about Watkins, 38, but Sheffield school officials said no one has ever contact them with concerns in the past two years.
District officials said that according to Alabama law, placing her on paid administrative leave is as far as they can go up to this point.
The next step could be a recommendation by the Superintendent to cancel her contract, but officials won't say if or when that will happen.
The last time Watkins was in trouble was two years ago after she brought a group of students to a movie theater.
Watkins is charged with both rape and sodomy in the second degree. Her arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 26 in the Colbert County Courthouse.
