SOMERVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A bill to rename the Somerville post office after former Tennessee Lt. Gov. John Wilder has cleared its final legislative hurdle by passing the U.S. Senate.
Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., who sponsored the bill with Democratic Rep. Steve Cohen of Memphis, said President Barack Obama could sign the bill as early as next week.
Blackburn and Cohen both served with Wilder in the Tennessee State Senate. Blackburn currently represents Wilder in Congress.
Wilder, a Democrat from Mason, was Senate speaker for 36 years; he retired from the Legislature in 2008.
