TOWN CREEK, AL (WAFF) - The Lawrence County Sheriff's office has arrested a man in connection with the murder of an elderly couple.

Charles Auther Moore, 61, of Tuscumbia, is charged with two counts of capital murder.

Sheriff Gene Mitchell said Bailey and Betty Nichols of Town Creek were found shot to death inside their home on 1650 County Road 147 Sunday morning.

Church members made the discovery when the couple didn't show up for services.

Deputies came out to the home at about 9:45 a.m.

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office, the District Attorney's office and the Alabama Bureau of Investigation were able to develop Moore as a suspect.

When investigators made contact with Moore in Colbert County, he was found with some items belonging to the victims.

Moore is being held in the Lawrence County Jail on no bond.
