NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee Correction Commissioner George Little is stepping down at the end of this month.
Gov. Phil Bredesen, who appointed Little in October 2005, made the announcement Wednesday that Little's last day will be Dec. 31.
Later Wednesday, The Commercial Appeal reported that new Memphis Mayor A C Wharton Jr. held a press conference to name Little his new chief administrative officer. He is set to start Jan. 1.
Little is a former director of the Shelby County Division of Corrections.
He says he appreciates the "opportunity to have been a part of this administration and to contribute to its accomplishments."
Bredesen says he will immediately begin the process of looking for a replacement.
