Woman charged after meth, pipe found in purse at courthouse

Posted: Updated:

FORT PAYNE, AL (WAFF) - A woman was arrested on drug charges after a security officer found meth and a pipe inside her purse in the X-ray machine at the DeKalb County Courthouse.

On Tuesday, the officer was running the security X-ray machine when Lori Shannon Burton, 31, of Section had her purse run through the machine. The officer detected what appeared to be a glass bulb inside her purse.

After consulting with a DeKalb County deputy, the officers asked Burton for consent to search her purse after she came out of a bathroom. Inside, the officers found the meth, officials said. A glass pipe was found in the bathroom she had just left.

Burton was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. She was transported to the DeKalb County Jail and later released on $9,000 bond.
