3-year-old Hartselle boy drowns in Tenn. pool

Posted: Updated:

SEVIERVILLE, TN (WAFF) - A 3-year-old Hartselle boy drowned Friday afternoon in the swimming pool of a rental cabin in Sevier County.

According to Sevier County Sheriff Ron Seals, Sevier County Central Dispatch received a 911 call  stating that Drake L. Speegle had drown in a pool. Emergency responders arrived at the cabin to find family members performing CPR on the Speegle.

He was transported to Ft. Sanders/Sevier Co. Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Seals said officers at the scene determined that Speegle had made it to the basement of the home, where the swimming pool was located, without the knowledge of family members. He then either fell or jumped into the 4-foot pool.

The investigation at this time indicates that the drowning was accidental. Sevier County authorities said Friday was the child's birthday.
