Soldier spends two Thanksgivings away, thankful to be home

What are you thankful for?

It's a question that comes up every Thanksgiving, and the answer is usually a reason many people celebrate the last Thursday in November.

They've been split apart, but Lt. Colonel Mike Miller continued counting the days until his return.

"377 days," said Miller.

Serving with the U.S. Army Reserve Command, Lt. Colonel Miller spent a year and twelve days in Kuwait before returning home October 30th.

This Thanksgiving, he's thankful for the little things in life.

"Being in my own bed and getting up and drinking my wife's coffee, and all the honey dos that accumulate while you're gone."

Honey dos like fall yard work.

"We didn't really have too many tree's in Kuwait, so I didn't really mind raking all the leaves when I got back," Miller said.

He's now spending as much time with his daughters Lindsey and Shelby, his wife Amy of 14 and a half years, and his family this holiday weekend.

Family ranks at the top for this Lt. Colonel and his wife who's still adapting to home-life in Huntsville.

"Last year we moved here, and two weeks later he left," said Miller's wife Amy.

"It's really nice, it's the first Thanksgiving in two years that we've been together as a family. Last year he was in Kuwait and the year before that he was in Egypt on military duty," added Miller.

Serving his country for one very good reason.

"Being home with family because that's what I treasure the most," added Lt. Colonel Miller.

A perfect reason he's thankful this Thanksgiving.

Lt. Colonel Miller and his family just came back from Disney World.

He works at Redstone Arsenal, and still serves as a member of the reserve.
